Job Announcement: Oyster Hatchery Position

KCB Oyster Holdings is located in Lottsburg, Virginia and produces oyster larvae and seed from December through September. This is a seasonal, full-time job.

This is a unique opportunity to commercially produce oysters and develop a research/breeding program to improve hatchery performance.

Primary responsibilities:


Brood stock management and maintenanceAlgae cultureSpawning and larvae cultureCultchless seed settingFiltration maintenance
Basic qualifications:


Bachelor’s degree in a science related fieldGood work ethic and self-motivatedAbility to work variable hours, including weekends in rotationAbility to work independently and multi-taskCommunicate effectively with other employeesAbility to perform record keeping and organize results
Preferred qualifications:


Prior hatchery knowledgeAbility to adaptively manageProblem solving/troubleshootingAbility to conduct research experimentsInterest in seawater chemistry and oyster breedingSalary negotiable and health benefits included.

Parking Cash Out

Students Faculty and Staff Parking Sustainable Transportation DOTS' Parking Cash Out will open on Monday, August 5, offering $450 to the first 75 eligible employees who give up their parking permit and commit to a sustainable commute for the entire 2019-2020 academic year. New this year, the program will offer a $300 cash incentive to 25 eligible graduate students.
SIGN-UP PERIODEligible employees and graduate students may sign up at go.umd.edu/parking-cashout or in person at the DOTS office in Regents Drive Garage between Monday, August 5, 2019  at 10:00 a.m. and Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. PARTICIPANT ELIGIBILITYMust be a UMD employee or graduate student.  Must have an active annual faculty/staff or student commuter parking registration for the 2018-2019 academic year.
