The National Park Service Emergency services has another position opening, and is looking for a current or recently graduated student.

We are looking for a paid intern to work for the Deputy Chief of Emergency Services for the National Park Service.  This intern would be responsible for implementing GIS workflows to support NPS Emergency Services, including potentially Search and Rescue, EMS, as well as other areas of the Law Enforcement, Security, and Emergency Services division.  They may also be asked to provide GIS support during disaster response.  The intern can expect to exercise and expand a wide range of GIS skills and learn first-hand about emergency management.

This position is based out of the NPS headquarters in Washington, D.C., and is funded through October.  There is the potential to work up to 40 hours per week, but hours are open to discussion.

Internship-Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute

The Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute provides the opportunity for an intern to gain experience with the study of the ecology and conservation of threatened Virginia turtle species. The intern will assist with two projects. The first is an ongoing population monitoring project examining the distribution and status of wood turtle (Glyptemys insculpta) populations across northern Virginia. The second project is an ongoing study that is part of a multi-state grant to determine the status and distribution of spotted turtles (Clemmys guttata) across their range. Position Description Coast Survey modelers provide forecast guidance of oceanographic information to help mariners safely navigate their local waters. This national network of hydrodynamic models provides users with operational now-cast and forecast guidance (out to 48 hours) on parameters such as water levels, water temperature, salinity, and currents. These forecast systems are implemented in critical ports, harbors, estuaries, Great Lakes, and coastal waters of the United States and form a national backbone of real-time data, tidal predictions, data management, and operational modeling.

Required Skills
0 - 2 years of experience in computer programming. Summer 2019 Bat Acoustic Internship

Looking for an internship opportunity over Summer 2019? Enjoy working outdoors and road trips?  UMD is looking for interns to drive transects throughout central Maryland most nights of June to record bat echolocation calls. The data you collect will help UMDAppalachian Lab and MDDNR learn which batspecies are present during summer which is extremely important.

If you are interested in this opportunity and willing to work most nights in June, you can earn a great skill set highly desired by employers, gas reimbursement, and possibly receive college credit. NOAA currently has two paid summer hire positions posted now with the contractor ERT at NOAA's Office of Coast Survey located in Silver Spring, MD:
IOCM Precision Port Area GIS Redefinition Intern --  This project will involve taking an existing GIS port boundaries project worked on by previous summer hires to the next level.  We need to define smaller ports within these larger port areas, establishing criteria to refine with Coast Survey customers and determine a shoreward boundary or buffer.  Work will fluctuate between interviewing colleagues for Coast Survey to establish final criteria defining a "port," and the hands-on GIS analysis to update the port boundary layers into an atlas of ports.

Animal Rescue Program Mystic Aquarium responds to reports of live and dead marine mammals and sea turtles along the shores of Connecticut, Rhode Island and Fishers Island, N.Y. A rehabilitation facility is operated for pinnipeds, and occasionally cetaceans and sea turtles. Interns should be working toward a degree in marine biology, veterinary medicine or a related field. Recent graduates seeking experience in these fields are accepted. There is a minimum requirement of 40 hours per week and it is a 12 week internship. The Environmental Design Intern would be working primarily with Professional Engineers and Environmental Analysists on a variety of projects.  They may have the opportunity to work with Sustainable Design group on traffic noise analysis, air quality analysis, roadway planning and design, LEED certification, and sustainability planning.  They may have the opportunity to work with our Water Resources Engineering group on hydraulics and hydrology analysis, stormwater management design, drainage design, erosion and sediment control design, and stream restoration.
